Obama's Tax Plan - "Found A Way To Sell Hope"

If you still have questions about the Obama/Biden Tax Plan, then watch this video. This is a summary of what Barack Obama and Joe Biden will bring to the American people.

I just can't get past the feeling that we have just been swindled by a silver tongue, keen team of marketers and bought into his 'We Can Change" plan all bottled up and packaged so pretty!

"There's no better path to success than getting people to buy a free commodity. Like the genius who figured out how to get people to pay for water: bottle it (Aquafina was revealed to be nothing more than reprocessed tap water) and charge more than they pay for gasoline. Or consider how Google found a way to sell dictionary nouns -- boat, shoe, clock -- by charging advertisers zillions to be listed whenever the word is searched. And now, in the most amazing trick of all, a silver-tongued freshman senator has found a way to sell hope. To get it, you need only give him your vote. Barack Obama is getting millions" -- quote - Townhall.com ColumnistsCharles Krauthammer Original article: Obama, the Platitude Salesman
All I can say is that he has a huge project ahead of him and no doubt not everyone is going to be happy with his plans. One that comes to mind is the corporate folks.

What are your thoughts? Can Obama make the change he so gracefully presents?

You can get a flavor of Senator Obama's conventional, liberal program on his website.

That's where he has published his platform, a set of detailed policy prescriptions called The Blueprint for Change.

Candace, I think Obama's strengths are that he is really smart and really disciplined.  And he's walking into the worst job anyone could have right now.  There is a tradition in many cultures of empowering their leaders.  Obviously, we don't have that tradition here, but it's we should consider adopting.

Candace, I couldn't agree more. Frankly, I hope I'm proven wrong. I woke up this morning to hear that he wants to appoint a Climate Czar...and suggesting Robert Kennedy Jr. who has a VERY extreme policy with respect to global warming. Industries will flock out of this country (I project, as do the experts) if this happens. Again, hope I'm wrong and the  discipline prevails.

Patricia - I agree, he is smart and articulate. I am so sitting on the fence. This election was a tough one, I wasn't a big McCain fan either. It just seems there are some big holes in this country's economy and it's going to stink if Obama is kicked to the curb for not doing all that he claims. I can just see it now, those that voted him in are going to have big expectations because I believe they truly voted with emotion. I hope he comes through and he proves all those (like myself) wrong! I can't help but love his smile!

Colleen, I'm the last to go preaching about politics, there are so many who eat, breath and drink this stuff hourly, daily! I am not one of them! I just am getting to the "beginners" stage and just have been following more during this campaign. I am burned out and to be honest, I contemplated on even sharing these thoughts (post)... I just can't seem to get past the feeling he is so slick...yet smart... Why do I feel like I'm on the fence with this guy? Did he sell us a bill of sale?  I, too Hope NOT! I want him to so prove me wrong?

Lenn - really not sure which way your "ya think?" sways?  Read above just in case! I hate this feeling because I can so easily buy into what he promises...I fit into so many of the parameters that he speaks of changing and the class of people he wants to work with!  Single mother for one!

Candace - Since Obama has only been in office for four years, it is impossible to know what he is going to do in office. The greater the unknown..the greater the risk. But, like it or not...we going for a ride.

Hi Candace....Oh if we had a Crystal Ball..I suspect like you said he will not be able to deliver on many of his promises, as he said in his acceptance speech, he might not get everything done in one term. I suspect his positive attitude will help, but his socialist ideas will Cost the American people dearly. We're still paying for our Liberal Governments from the Past.

Bottom line, maybe to many promises, but that's what Politicians do to get elected and Yes, he's a good Salesman.

Cheers, it's only four years, if it works out okay, then that's a good thing, if not.... time for a new leader.

Candace...  Great post!  I love the controversy...yes, I truly do believe that all the votes for Obama were based on emotion.  After all the man made history, the first African American...when does everyone start talking about his Caucasian side?  Simple easy question, I know that he credits his grandmother.  Does any credit go towards his mother?  As Fred says, "Cheers, it's only four years..."  Four years can go by really fast and yet really slow at the same time.  He is definitely the salesman of salesman...Slick and yet I to feel somewhat swindled!

All the Best!

Candace- I just don't see how he can do everything he has promised. None of them ever do. I will be giving kudos to him if he can get 5% of what he has promised accomplished! And I am sure it will come at a cost.

Candace, I personally think either choice of candidate was a tough one...But now that the voters have decided, we should all come together as one America and give president-elect Obama a chance to make good on his campaign promises. Heck, he really can't do worse than W did.......can he?

Candace.  There is just so much money to go around.  There are just so many folks who need relief these days from high gas prices, high grocery prices, tight credit, high tuition, etc.

I haven't seen anything in Obama's positions about how he can give the middle class any relief from the high cost of living.  A small transfer from high earners to middle class earners won't lower the cost of living.  In fact, many of his statements appear to be sympathetic to actions that would continue to the rise in the cost of living for everyone who now works for a living.

Do "ya think" that giving unions more power will lower the cost of living?  Or, that limiting drilling for our own oil will lower the cost of fuel?  Or, will taxing corporations more lower the cost of goods and services we consumers have to pay?  Or, will universal health care lower the cost of the medical care? Or will it simply cause a new huge government department to transfer money from folks who earn it to insurance companies through an entitlement which never lowers costs?  Or, will reducing trade with other countries that produce lower cost goods help the high cost of goods in the U.S.?

I sympathize with single moms.  I raised 5 children alone.  My husband died when my youngest was 5 years old.  What I do know is that when my children were young, I could fill a station wagon with groceries for $100.  Now, I can carry $100 of groceries in my arms.

What I see coming is a significantly higher cost of living and that's not good for anyone.

What I meant by "ya think" from your statement "just can't get past the feeling that we have just been swindled by a silver tongue, keen team of marketers and bought into his 'We Can Change" plan all bottled up and packaged so pretty!"

was that you are, IMO, right on target

Silver tongue rhetoric doesn't buy groceries.
