Gilbert Arizona Fishing Day at Riparian Preserve

Youth Fishing Day -  Riparian Preserve

Fishing October 11th, Kids can drop a line for free at the Riparian Preserve Lake in Gilbert from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday. The Arizona Game and Fish Department will be providing fishing gear and bait to the first 100 youths. What a great way to introduce children into the world of fishing!

Take a child fishing! This is a great opportunity to spend the morning fishing with family or to bring a young angler that would enjoy the experience!

Participants will not need an urban fishing license to fish on the Gilbert lake. Only for the event that day.  That lake has a maximum depth of 15 feet and features catfish, rainbow trout, bluegill, sunfish, crappie, largemouth bass, tilapia and carp.  Fish are regularly stocked at the Preserve.  At any age, any level, Youth Fishing Day is a perfect opportunity to catch a fish.  The lake is located southeast of Greenfield and Guadalupe roads. This is one of the 20 lakes in Maricopa County involved in the Urban Fishing Progam! See you there!

I'm sure that a lot of youngsters will have a ball on Saturday. I hope you get to take the day off and enjoy watching those wee people.

As usual, you are busy working in the wee hours of the morning.

Hey Candace!

Here in Apex, NC the town sponsors an annual fishing derby very similar to your post. Awards are given for biggest fish caught and most fish caught in varying age groups. No license is needed and the turnout is always great. It's a catch and release contest. The kids love it! I go every year and take pictures. I don't know what kind of fish they catch, but I know none of them ended up on my sushi dinner plate!

Don't forget to post a follow up complete with pictures. I hope the weather is wonderful for you that day.

Leolinda - no doubt this event pulls in a crowd. I don't have little ones anymore however love to watch them. I have wonderful memories of when my big boys were little and fishing was the norm for them! This is a great opportunity for those that want to create a memory or tradition with a love one, little angler and have fun!
