The Greater Phoenix area is made up of more than 25 cities and towns, depending on how you define it. It is often easiest to think of Greater Phoenix to be the same as Maricopa County, although included are some areas that are actually in Pinal County, because the people who live in those areas often work, play and shop in Maricopa County.

Collectively they are known as the “Valley of the Sun” and they cover a small part of the sprawling 9,127 square miles of Maricopa County. Some Valley cities are well-known to those outside of Arizona: Scottsdale, as the resort destination of choice for sun and recreation; Tempe, as the site of the Arizona State University; Paradise Valley, as a 
residential town of idyllic as the name implies and Sun City as the home of active retirees. Glendale, the home of the University of Phoenix Stadium. It is the home of the Arizona Cardinals and the annual Fiesta Bowl.
The Northeast Valley homes covers the areas of Cave Creek, Carefree, Scottsdale, Fountain Hills, Paradise Valley, Rio Verde.
